SUMMARY OF ROLE

Come join our team of engineers and scientists using consumables, robotics, vision, machine learning and AI to advance the state-of-the-art biological growth detection system. Rapid Micro Biosystems (RMB) is looking for a well experienced Program Manager who responsible for managing a wide range of programs and projects, ensuring deliverables are consistently completed on time, with quality standards, and meet senior leadership expectations.  The selected candidate will be fully responsible for project execution for projects across all new product development phases from the inception of the project concept until the global commercial release of the product.  The Principal Program Manager is responsible for achieving milestone commitments by analyzing and assessing project challenges and planning and controlling project risk/ issues related measures.  The role will lead matrixed employees/teams and/or consultants to achieve program objectives.  The role comprises overall project monitoring and reporting including appropriate escalations to management.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the leadership of internally- and externally-resourced cross-functional project teams and complex projects, including: initiating phase, assembling project teams, developing project plans, motivating teams, and controlling project execution to ensure timely completion of projects.
  • Utilize effective project management techniques to independently execute on project deliverables. This includes managing scope, schedule, risk, and budget.
  • Drives day-to-day project activity to achieve results including solving technical and other project challenges, managing resource conflicts, breaking down barriers to meet product quality, and company goals and objectives.
  • Ensure all peripheral activities are planned, completed, and communicated to all stakeholders.
  • Prepares for and conducts project phase gate reviews.
  • Provide motivation and direction to Inspire teams to perform at their best and breed new levels of pride and ownership in doing great work on tight timelines.
  • Creates and maintains dashboards to report on the progress of projects to all stakeholders and the Leadership Team.
  • Provide input regarding the performance of individuals on project teams.
  • Provide mentorship and leadership to project managers
  • Provide continuous improvement on our defined life cycle process
  • Ensure projects are executed in accordance with applicable procedures and policies.
  • Initiates proactive discussions with stakeholders to align on expectations and develop relationships.
  • Assembles and reports program metrics and communicates program status and deliverables for both management and project teams.

QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES

  • 10+ years of experience managing technical programs/projects utilizing project management and product design & development frameworks with examples of successful outcomes
  • Experience leading complex capital equipment and high-volume consumable development projects highly preferred
  • Strong project management skills including: budgeting, planning, tracking, organization, attention to detail, managing competing priorities, analytical and critical thinking, sound engineering fundamentals, defining project tasks, plans and resource requirements, communication plan, standardized/template minutes, agenda, timetables, pre-meetings, project plans, project charters, risk registers, Gantt charts, and Work Breakdown Structure.
  • Experience managing government contracts (e.g., SBIR/STTR) and working in a regulated industry (medical devices, pharmaceuticals) is desirable
  • Requires 12+ years with a B.S. Degree in ME, SE, or EE engineering disciplines; 8+ years with an MS degree, or 5+ years with a PhD.
  • Advanced project management certification is desirable
  • Needs to be driven, committed, self-initiating, with perseverance and a sense of urgency
  • Comfort in facilitating meetings and presentations
  • Excellent verbal & written skills to effectively communicate at all levels and across the organization
  • Experience with managing risk and developing and implementing mitigation strategies
  • Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks and projects, meet deadlines, and manage to schedule
  • Provides guidance and unblocks others as well as finds opportunity to mentor and grow teammates.
  • Ability to drive/lead in a matrix structure with persuasion and influence
  • Good working knowledge of Word, Excel, Microsoft Project, and PowerPoint

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Primarily in an office and lab setting with occasional manufacturing area.
  • Sitting and standing using computers
  • Some travel required <10%
  • Ability to work nights and weekends on occasion to meet critical deadlines
