We are seeking Research Associate I for the R&D Microbiology group based in Lowell, MA emphasizing teamwork, creativity, and intellectual achievement. The candidate will have the opportunity to work closely with our highly skilled scientists and engineers on a variety of cross-functional projects in developing new applications, technologies, and products for rapid microbial enumeration assays. You should be an energetic self-starter with documented productivity and integrity; strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills required.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Work in a safe manner with strict adherence to all procedures.

  • Perform experimental protocols as defined.

  • Maintain laboratory notebooks and other documentation relevant to the quality system.

  • Analyze data and write up results as appropriate in a timely manner.

  • Give oral and written presentations of work to co-workers and management.

  • Maintain laboratory equipment and supplies as needed in collaboration with the team.

  • Work collaboratively and efficiently with internal scientific resources.

  • May need to work nights and weekends on occasion to meet critical deadlines.

  • Provide technical support to the Growth Direct system in the areas of:

  • Feasibility testing of development or customer provided samples.

  • Development of new microbial test applications in support of sales and marketing.

  • Assist in troubleshooting/complaint investigations from the field.

  • Provide technical support for the Rapid Micro sales/marketing team

  • Assist in preparation and review of feasibility study reports, application document (e.g., technical briefs, white papers).

  • This position is not expected to involve travel (<5%).

Education & Required Qualifications

  • Associates degree in Microbiology, or Biological sciences and 1-2 years’ experience with general microbiological methods, experimental test protocol, and results preparation (academic and/or industry)

OR

  • Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, or Biological sciences and 0-2 years’ experience with general microbiological methods, experimental test protocol, and results preparation (academic and/or industry) in Microbiology, or Biological Sciences with a major in microbiology.
  • Well-versed with general microbiology laboratory techniques such as aseptic technique, culturing methodologies, microbial testing methods for bioburden and environmental monitoring, pipetting, autoclaving, and surface disinfection
  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting analytical skills.
  • Good communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Enthusiastic, detail oriented and capable of working independently as well as within a multifunctional team.
  • Familiarity with word processing and data spreadsheet software, such as MS Office (particularly MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Excel) is required.
  • Good writing and oral presentation skills are required. ?
  • Preferred Requirements & Skills
  • Experience working with Biosafety Level 2 organisms.
  • Experience in an ISO or GMP/GLP qualified lab environment and an understanding of statistical analysis a plus.
  • Experience in experimental design desirable.
  • Work is primarily in a laboratory setting with some time spend in meetings and at a computer to analyze and write protocols or reports
